SLSA Services Profile

Since 1907 Australia's surf lifesavers have saved nearly 500,000 lives. Surf Life Saving Australia boasts more than 110,000 members, of all ages, in 303 surf lifesaving clubs around the Australian coastline. Surf lifesaving and the surf lifesaver have become an integral part of Australia's culture and history. The surf lifesaving movement has been responsible for many outstanding developments in national and international lifesaving practices, both in the ocean and on the land. Surf Life Saving Australia has been a pioneer in rescue and resuscitation throughout the world and has a strong research and development focus.
Despite the significant advancements in technology, techniques and knowledge, people still drown on Australia's beaches in unacceptable numbers. Surf Life Saving Australia will continue to develop its practices in education, prevention and rescue, remaining the benchmark for aquatic rescue both in Australia and around the globe. This services profile outlines the activities currently undertaken by Surf Life Saving Australia to further reduce drownings and injuries along the Australian coastline. It has been designed to help you understand the operations of surf lifesaving in Australia and its role in the provision of safety management in the aquatic environment. By working in partnership with community, business and government, SLSA believes we can together make our greatest icon, the beaches of Australia, safer for all.
